Oh and those pst-change highs, we normally, for us that is, combat them with a correction of .30 to .40. Our numbers were crazy for a while. Highest AIC too (though still in range) was after 2 months pumping. That said, it is an absolutely wonderful life changing little thing. The freedom and flexibility is amazing. We LOVE it and have been happily pumping for a year and half now. Congrats and good luck!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-606637689904713685.post-23002246837459581292011-11-04T20:53:51.892-07:002011-11-04T20:53:51.892-07:00congrats guys! the high might have been from exci...congrats guys! the high might have been from excitement maybe? i know you'll get things sorted and evened out soon. so glad to hear she's so thrilled! :)shannonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08895190983814591749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-606637689904713685.post-46216086980231738482011-11-04T11:04:53.598-07:002011-11-04T11:04:53.598-07:00Hooray!

We needed more insulin. We always had to realize that the pump didn't always start pushing out insulin right after insertion. It takes awhile to figure all this stuff out. But, I'm sure you know that. Have fun with the remote option!Amy@Diapeepeeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10155562802806704713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-606637689904713685.post-31787353985539083272011-11-04T04:15:37.376-07:002011-11-04T04:15:37.376-07:00Our diabetes center lowers the overall basal when ...Our diabetes center lowers the overall basal when you start pumping and you increase basal rates, after testing all time periods, from there. Not sure, but I think some people use less insulin for basals when pumping; some use more. It's high but they have to be safe. Call CDE and start with basal testing and adjustments. We saw the same thing and, yes, it did take us two or three months to figure out her patterns (which continuously change). You will have much better control, I think, but you do have to give it time. Me no likey either :(. Hang in there! P.S. You are going to have to figure out her patterns; and figure out how her basals really work. I think they start with four basal time periods -- one time period 6am to noon; next noon to 6pm; next 6pm to midnight; next midnight to 6am. Children will usually drop with lower basals 1am thru 5am was ours but overnight.... and usually a rise in the evening 6am thru 10pm was ours (1.5 times the normal hourly rate). You will figure it out. Do you have "Pumping Insulin" by John Walsh. Gives you an idea but we could not and still cannot use his formulas for insulin sensitivity (correction factor) and insulin to carb ratio. But book is indispensible. Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner works great for exercise particularly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-606637689904713685.post-84511795917581668162011-11-04T00:17:57.032-07:002011-11-04T00:17:57.032-07:00EXCITING! I finally freaked out after a week or two and actually had to listen to the CDE about increasing dosing all around, even though I was SCARED TO DEATH because I was SURE the dosing they suggested couldnt be right!

I had to realize that pumping is FAR different than injections, and it all ended up ok once I understood that!

I know how hard the transition is......I know how happy Elise is, and I know how happy you are that she is happy!
